Pete Klimley
UC Davis
Dr. Peter Klimley has studied sharks for over three decades and written over 50 scientific articles on the behavior and ecology of sharks. His studies range from complex social habits and navigation of hammerheads to feeding tactics and behavior of white sharks. He is currently Adjunct Professor and Director of the Biotelemetry Laboratory at UC Davis.

Sandra Bessudo
Fundación Malpelo
Sandra is a marine biologist and a professional diver. She has worked in the Malpelo Flora and Fauna sanctuary for over 18 years. Currently she ´s the director of the Malpelo Foundation and she is the director of the shark tagging program in Malpelo.

Héctor Guzmán
Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute
Hector has been a staff scientist at STRI since 1994. He studied marine biology at University of Costa Rica and Newcastle University and has published over 100 scientific publications on topics related to ecology and monitoring of coral reefs, conservation biology, and coastal pollution.

Alex Hearn
UC Davis & Charles Darwin Foundation
Alex Hearn worked as Coordinator of Fisheries Research at the Charles Darwin Foundation in the Galapagos Islands from 2002-8. He studied Marine Biology at Southampton University and carried out his PhD research in the Orkney Islands. He is currently doing postdoctoral research on sharks and sturgeon at the Biotelemetry Laboratory at the University of California, Davis.

Eduardo Espinoza

Eduardo is a Marine Biologist who has worked in the Galápagos Islands since 1991, initially as research officer in an fisheries monitoring program for the Darwin Foundation in 1998, after which he undertook a Masters Program at Tokyo University with a specialization in Marine Resource Management.

James Ketchum

James is a marine biologist and PhD candidate in Ecology at the University of California, Davis. He has studied sharks and rays for the past ten years, particularly the ecology of whale sharks in the Gulf of California and more recently the movement patterns and habitat use of different species of sharks in the Galapagos Islands.

César is an Ecuadorian Marine Biologist with a degree from the Catholic University of Ecuador. He is an Associate Researcher at the Charles Darwin Foundation and has worked for almost three years assessing the artisanal fin fisheries and the Ecological Risk of the Effects of Fisheries in the Galapagos Marine Reserve.

German Soler is a Colombian with a Masters in Marine Biology from the University of New South Wales, Australia. He has worked for the Malpelo Foundation for more than four years on different research and conservation projects.

Andrés Baquero
Equilibrio Azul
Andrés studied at the University of San Diego. His research was mainly focused towards shark satellite telemetry. In Ecuador Andres is the Director of Equilibrio Azul, an organization that is working intensively on the coast of the country.

Felipe is a co-founder of Equilibrio Azul, an NGO that works on the coast of Ecuador. As a diving instructor and professional underwater photographer, he coordinates several projects for the organization.

Randall Arauz is a Costa Rican biologist graduated from the University of Costa Rica in 1987. He is a founding member and President of PRETOMA, a Costa Rican NGO established to protect marine life in 1997.

Todd Steiner
Turtle Island Restoration Network
Todd Steiner is a biologist and executive director of the international environmental organization, Turtle Island Restoration Network, established in 1989. He has conducted research and monitoring on sea turtles, coho salmon and other endangered species. He currently collaborates with Randall Arauz and his shark and turtle research in Costa Rica.

Ilena Zanella
PRETOMA
Ilena Zanella is working at the Marine Research Department of PRETOMA. She is a marine biologist and started to work with PRETOMA in 2006. In 2008 she finished her master’s degree thesis on the fisheries and biology of hammerhead sharks in Costa Rica´s Pacific Ocean.
